Good day to all! I hope all of you had a great four day break. I sure did. Today's opener is a simple one. I want you to access your Earth Science e-Book and locate the page which the volcano chapter starts. Then, I want you to pick one new vocabulary word from the chapter and write it with a condensed definition on the board. Be sure to put your name next to your definition. After all students have shared we will all copy down the definitions together to keep with our notes for Chapter 4. You may use the template below for taking your notes.
Today we will continue our best project yet. This is only the first part of the Epic Volcano Flashcard Journey. First we will be making three cartoons in pencil. So, open up Pencil to get started. You will need to create cartoons for three volcanoes: shield, cinder cone, and strato. Refer to pages 222-226 in your book for photos and descriptions.
After that is finished you will need to write a script for your 'voice over' in which you will narrate as your cartoon plays. Your voice over will tell the audience how each volcano works, why it erupts in the manner it does, and key factors that make it unique to the other volcanoes. You must write your script in a word document and get it checked by Silva before doing any voice overs. This is an individual project. Refer to pages 222-226 for information about each volcano.
After your script has been checked off you may record your voice over. Silva has prepared two options for you to use when doing this.
Cartoons are due at the end of the period with voice overs. Each is worth 25 points for a total of 75 points. Save these as they will be used in your flashcards later on.
